Daniel Martinez is currently working in Dallas, Texas under the name of Special Finishes of Texas (Plano, Texas), a home remodeling and marble, granite, and tile installation business. Martinez is a likable, well dressed man who makes a good impression. He may represent himself as a general contractor or as an Interior Designer. He is neither. His experience is mostly as a mural painter and painter of faux finishes. In our job, he demonstrated a significant lack of skill in the basic trades (carpentry, drywall, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, etc.) and in planning. He constructed a few things in a way that would have caused "expensive and hard to repair" future problems if we had not corrected them. He always had quick and credible sounding explanations ("everyone does it that way now") that someone without building skills might believe. In one instance, he knowingly lied about what he had done "behind the wall". It was a code violation.
He spoke about his company, his driver, etc., but we found out that his "company" was only him. He had a day laborer, but we could tell they hadn't worked together much.
You will see on this website which contains information from several homeowners, he is not above running away with clients deposits or advance payments if he needs money. He is not above changing terms in the middle of projects with threats that he will walk off the job and leave the home in chaos. He knows how to run. He has no traceable place of business, no website, no employees, no bank accounts, no credit cards, no credit with building material suppliers in the Metroplex. In one case described here, he left the country.
His actions were so egregious, we felt obligated to provide a place for people to share their experiences, both good and bad, openly and with fairness.

He stole from me too and left my home uninhabitable. I'm still processing all this and will tell my story soon.

ReplyDeleteHe's real smooth talker. He did tile work for me that starting falling off the wall after 10 months because it was installed wrong. He wouldn't return phone calls, text messages or emails. Stay away from him. Glad to see that someone has finally outed this bastard!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone knows where this guy lives, please post it here. We are trying to serve him with a lawsuit. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! This guy sounded too good to be true but I caught him in a lie so I googled him. Thanks. We dodged this bullet!
ReplyDeletelol. Someone finally outed this bozo. He said he needed 4 days to paint our place. On day four he was 1/2 way through and said he needed the balance of the payment and to trust him to finish the job.
ReplyDeleteWe paid and we never saw him again.
We worked with this guy and have a similar sad story. I only want to add that the problems we had were not about honest mistakes. I believe that this man targets people he can con and deceive because they don't know much about construction. After we had a professional look at what he had been doing and we politely confronted him hoping to resolve matters, he blamed his actions on us and ran off.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad this website is here. He quoted a job for us. Smooth talker; very loose with details, wanted big down payment before he started the project. We declined.
ReplyDeleteHi great reading your post
